I thought I’d stick to Teespring till I fix all my other Affiliate Marketing Channels.
Some times, if you try and learn too many things at once you progress at a very slow pace. It’s a better strategy to continue working on what you already know as your core while in your spare time try and break into other things.
So I spent the day creating 5 Teespring campaigns and launched.
Around $110 spent for the whole 5 campaigns and 0 sales.
It’s a normal day for me. I go through 100s of these campaigns till I find my unicorn that will bring in the gold.
I think this is the part that’s most frustrating for people. They expect to be able to find a campaign after their first few tries. It’s not like that. I hope you’re that lucky but if you want to give this a fair shot, expect to be pulling your hair out before something hits.
That’s the catch with this industry but it always pays off as long as you’re learning from every mistake and fine tuning your process. Anyway, let’s look at some of the campaigns.
- 5 x Teespring Campaigns
I spent around $22 for each one and made no sales.
I’ve discontinued all but one and that’s the one with around 10% CTR. It’s interesting to note that even though the CTR is more than all other campaigns above, it’s still not giving me the cheapest cost per click.
Why? Because CTR is one of the many things that effect your costs. Another one that most people don’t think about is how expensive the demographic is to market to.
What do I mean by that?
The first campaign I was paying 7 cents per engagement which is the lowest of the above but my CTR was only ~ 7%. I was being charged low because the demographic I had selected were young teenage males that hardly get marketed to so there was little competition.
Compare this to males around 20 – 35 who are single. You’d get a lot of people marketing to these guys. Dating, gambling, all sorts of stuff and so the cost to compete here is higher.
Here is one of the Campaigns I launched.
I made 3-4 variations of it with different animals and launched them as different campaigns.
It took me about 15 minutes to whip this design up and a further 5 minutes each for each variation.
In about 40 minutes to an hour I was ready to launch almost 5 designs. This is how I’m able to launch so much. I’m also able to learn about different demographics. How much competition they have, how passionate they are etc. This is why I like this technique because it’s an efficient way to discover a lot about people and consequently learn better marketing techniques.
Targeting Looked Like This
It totalled a reach of about 30k audience. Enough for an initial test. No need to flood with a reach in the 100s of thousands until we know it has potential. This way, we can optimize our time spent building campaigns.
Also, notice how targeted they are? Trainers, websites and horse expos. Only horse lovers would be connected to these interests. It’s not something generic like, ‘I love horses’. Although that could work, it’s most likely flooded with people that are young and just like horses for the fun of it. Not many would actually own one.
We want to target those that have a horse. They’re the ones most likely to make a purchase.
- Don’t spend too much time adding interests. 30-40k reach is enough at the start. You can go in and add more once you’re making sales.
- Make sure your targeting real specific. Magazines, forums, clubs, associations, websites are all good examples.
- If you’re not making a sale within $20-$40, ditch it and move on! Don’t be stuck to forcing something to work. If it has potential it will tell you.
I’m in talks with RingPartner and Some other networks to get me set up with pay per call and PPV. I’d love to be able to get this going.
Another very interesting affiliate model is to try the drop-shipping route. What happens here is that we set up a basic landing page promoting a product and every time we make a sale, we go ahead and purchase the item from Alibaba or Amazon. Pretty neat way to make a product and opens up the doors to thousands more products!
I’m thinking of trying this too. You just don’t know where the big gold nugget is going to be.
