An interesting question I’ve often seen thrown around a few forums. The interesting part of it is within the wide array of answers I see posted from affiliate marketers at different success levels.
From people who would be satisfied making $50 a day to those making millions and still wanting more. I thought I’d do a blog post on what my answer was and how my mindset has changed over this year.
At the end of this post I would LOVE for you guys to comment below what you’d be happy making.
A Quick Recap Of My Story
When I first started IM, I remember thinking to myself something along the lines of, “if I could JUST make $10 a day, that would cover my food expenses for the month!”. I would have been ecstatic! And I was. I was telling the whole neighborhood how awesome my lunch was because it was earned sitting behind my computer, listening to my favorite tunes, from the luxury of my leather computer chair.
From $10 a day, I quickly started to go to $30, $50 and even $100 profit in a single day! That’s when my mentality started to change from wanting to do this as a side thing to focusing it on it full time. Soon I matched the income I made when I was employed as a graduate engineer. I hit almost 4k profit in January and for the first time working for myself I could feel good about telling people I have a marketing business I run from home, knowing I’m actually making decent money from it.
The Month That Changed It All
Then came March. I had always been the type to try a lot of things. Even though I warned others about sticking to one thing and not jump around, I still think it’s a good idea to spend a little bit of your time in dabbing in experimental stuff. Whatever is hot or trending at the moment can make you BIG money if you get in early enough.
I did just that. I was experimenting with Teesping when I though of a very specific design that could be scaled tremendously. I didn’t get that excited though as I had tried heaps of designs that I thought would definitely work and they had flopped BAD. After I got 10 sales within the first hour I knew I had a monster in my closet.
I decided to test out another 10 variations of the same designs. They ALL hit just as good, if not better than the first. I was hitting records like you wouldn’t believe. $700, $1000, $2000, $5000, $7000 a day, it was just CRAZY! Read the monthly report about it here if you haven’t yet. I made more in one day then I had made in the last 6 months. This is where it all changed. My mind went from ‘just wanting to make some side income to just wanting to match my employment income to making the most I can make as an entrepreneur and always trying to beat my records.
My Present Mindset
This is where I stand today. When asked, “How much do you want to make from affiliate marketing”, my answer is, the sky’s the limit. I literally want to make millions a year and I know I can achieve it if I’m smart about my approach to this industry. I have the drive and the knowledge to make it happen so I know it’s just a matter of time. This year alone, I’m well on my way to 150k profit. For someone who didn’t know a thing about paid affiliate marketing a year ago, that’s a big deal! I’m not saying this to brag, I’m just saying it to prove that, if you SET your mind on a goal, you WILL make it happen.
That 150k is all I see. I work my whole life schedule around it. I count down the days till the end of the year and constantly recalculate the steps I need to take to reach it. I don’t care what happens, I WILL hit that goal no matter how ludicrous it sounded when I first wrote it down at the start of this year. I’m already at nearly 110k and I have more than half the year left.
Moral of the post, challenge yourself. $10/day, $100/day is easy is very doable but don’t stop there. Don’t just make this a ‘side thing’ or something ‘part-time’ where you focus 10 minutes of your day on. It’s something very real. I made more money in 20 days then I did in 2 years of saving up, being employed as a Civil Engineer in the BIGGEST construction firms in Australia.
The biggest barrier to your income level is your mindset. Change it and you’ll change how much you’ll earn.
Good luck 🙂
Great to get more motivational fluid into the system!
Well, if I had to set a dream number for me, that would be 10,000€/month net, which means about 600$/day… pretty much your 150K/year Mateen, so you’re the example to follow as you’re on your way to make it happen 😉
Yeah, $500 a day and you can live pretty comfortably! The only reason I demand more from myself is just to keep that element of challenge there. The moment you get lazy and complacent, that’s when you’ll start to fall behind in anything.
This is a great post! I’ve read through your blog and all the posts as I’m just getting into AM and all of your information has helped me tremendously . My first few campaigns on teespring aren’t doing so hot right now, but this was the motivation I needed to keep at it. Thanks again!
Thanks Corey.
Great to know my blogs helping people! It’s a long journey so don’t worry if things aren’t quite falling in to place right now. As you progress in your IM career, you’ll get better at spotting gold mines before others and after a couple of years you’ll be an IM machine! I’m only 1 year in but I can already see a lot of things people would overlook and I use that to my advantage.
Good luck!
Great post, Mateen!
What makes me happy is constantly keeping my mental focus, productivity and motivation on high levels, which sooner or later will bring the results. I find that as the most important because money will come and go, but if you set up the right mindset you can be really successful no matter how much you fail. And fails are coming and more will come. It’s a part of progress.
But from the money point of view, it’s hard to say what’s enough income for me, but as a newbie in affiliate I would say $4k-$5k a month for beginning would be great. So something like $130-$160 a day. After I would achieve this first milestone, I plan moving to next level generating reasonable capital to be able investing into real estate where I have experience from past years.
That’s my answer on how much I want to make in affiliate marketing 🙂
That’s very true Erik!
Your mindset is everything. The more I fall in to doubtfulness the less money I find myself making. The more I believe in my own creativity, the more I work and the higher the rewards I reap. I totally agree with you here.
That’s a great daily average. I would invest in real estate too, but the Aus market has been pretty crap the last 3-5 years :(. That’s cool you have a real estate background, great knowledge to have for long term investments.
Might take me a while to get in such income average from internet, but who knows sometimes things just happen. Definitely not by an accident as I believe everybody builds their own luck, but it’s about what I mentioned above, sooner or later it will happen. It has to.
Last two years I spent only doing real estate while having some flirtation with Internet marketing, but now I focus purely on IM and aff. marketing and later I plan to merge this businesses in some projects I would like to do. There is big money in both and also both are great fun for me I really enjoy it.
