Just like that, the first day of my challenge is complete.
I spent the new year night at the beach with a few friends. We went back to a mates house later and he pulled out a packet of chips and some Tim Tams. I was about to get some until I realised my challenge has started! It was 30 minutes into January 1st!
So my first test was to abstain from eating the junk after a long and tiring night. I was kept busy in conversation and playing board games so it wasn’t much of an issue. I ended up sleeping at 4am and waking up feeling lethargic and drained at around 10am.
What I ate
I started off the day with 5 protein balls at around 10.30am
They’re made of,
- cocoa powder
- chia seeds
- dried apricots
They don’t look all that tasty but they’re actually quite addictive once you start having them. They remind me of those apricot & nut bars my mum used to pack me for school.
Believe it or not, they’re around 900 calories! That’s equivalent to a decent serving of rice and some meat. The difference is that these are clean calories. They get digested easily and don’t put your digestive system into overload which means I don’t feel sleepy after.
The next meal was some cut up fruit. 3-400 calories worth. I had it at around 1.00pm.
- Kiwi Fruit
Usually I put a lot more fruit but this time this is all I had. I LOVE mango. It’s the best fruit in the world and right now it’s mango season in Australia. Yum!
Anyway, it took me about 20 minutes to eat all this.
Then, I made a couple of smoothies. One for early dinner and one for later.
- Frozen Strawberries
- Frozen Avacados
I’ve worked out I need to have around 2-3,000 calories in the day for my energy requirements so as long as I have all this, my requirements will be met. I try not to have food too late. Sleeping on late eaten food is the best way to get a gut.
I had one at about 5pm and another at around 9pm. 9pm is a little late but I’ll excuse myself this time since the day before was new years eve.
Anyway, these were a total of 2,200 calories. Not bad!
How I Feel – Energy Levels
To be honest, most of the day I felt lethargic and sleepy. I took a couple of naps throughout the day and woke up pretty early.
They say to ‘eat today for tomorrow’, meaning you’ll feel the effects of the food you eat the day after you eat it. Taking that in consideration, I expected to feel no different today.
Don’t really have an energy update, let’s see how we go tomorrow.
Cravings were pretty strong. Rice was cooked downstairs and I could smell the aroma of lightly sizzled onions and tomato’s. It took a lot to push it aside and make my smoothies but I feel that since I’ve declared the challenge on the blog, there’s no real turning back!
Anyway, that’s all for now.
I’ll post another update tomorrow.
